Tyrese Martin puts himself in MVP mode and makes Barça fans dream

In just under two weeks, the renewed Barça 2026/27 will finally get going.

All the players in the Barça squad, among which will be the (so far) nine signings made this summer, are scheduled for next August 24 to pass the pertinent medical check-ups and start the preseason in Andorra to later compete in the Catalan League (from September 9 to 13), before starting the ‘official’ season with their duel against Valencia Basket in the semifinals of the Endesa Super Cupwhich will be played in Badalona on September 19 and 20.

Among the new faces of this remodeled project led from the bench by Alexsander Sekulicmost of them unknown to the general public, one name is generating special excitement among the Barça fans: Tyrese Martin.

The American forward (27 years old and 1.98 meters tall), who signed for a single season with Barça, already had a certain prestige after his time in the NBA (especially for Jordi Fernández’s Brooklyn Nets in 2024-25) and landed at the Palau Blaugrana with the reputation of being a great scorer, especially in the G-League, where last season, despite playing only three games, he averaged 31 points and 9.7 rebounds in the ranks of the Delaware Blue Coats. In fact, in his last game there, he scored up to 45 points, with 10/16 (57%) in triples.

And this justified reputation as an excellent scorer is being corroborated, and in what way, this summer. Without going any further, Martin has just been chosen ‘Rumph Classic’ MVP a basketball tournament that is played every summer at the Drexel University facilities in Philadelphia to remember the figure of Danny Rumph, a young student who collapsed to the ground in 2005 while playing a basketball game and died from cardiomyopathy.

The Barça player started his participation in the aforementioned tournament with his team, the TBB, with 16 points and 12 rebounds. In the semifinals he reached 26 points but, without a doubt, he saved his best for the final, in which he led his team to the title (103-101) with a sensational ‘double double’: 33 points and 14 rebounds.

And all this with a tremendous feeling of superiority (not in vain, his nickname was ‘The Professional’) in a tournament that was also played by several NBA players such as De’Andre Hunter and in which, in previous editions, stars such as Jalen BrunsonNBA champion and Finals MVP with the New York Knicks.

Without a doubt, an unbeatable way to land in Europe and excite Barça fans unaccustomed to the joys of recent seasons.
