David González was officially presented as the new coach of Millonarios at the beginning of the 2025 preseason. The 42-year-old Paisa coach arrives at the ambassador club after standing out as runner-up with Medellín in 2022 and with Tolima in 2024. His style of play and vision of football fit with the idea of the managers, who They see him as the ideal person to continue the good things that Alberto Gamero left behind and adjust the weak points that complicated the team in recent years.

Known for his preference for the 4-2-3-1 system, González seeks dynamic football that makes the most of the wings, with offensive full-backs and unbalancing wingers. This scheme, which Gamero also used during his time in Millonarios, It worked well for González in Tolima, where he opted for full-backs like Hurtado and Hernández, capable of constantly going back and forth, and committed wingers like Lucumí and Castro. However, in Millonarios, the gangs represent a challenge, since they do not have similar profiles.

Delvin Alfonso, right back, has a good offensive contribution but remains on the mark, while Danovis Banguero, on the left, no longer has the same resistance to cover the entire lane. On the extremes, Jhon Emerson Córdoba has shown little defensive commitment, and on the left, Millonarios did not find a permanent starter during the last cycle. This forces González to work quickly to adjust the pieces or manage reinforcements that fit his idea of the game.

The new coach knows that he has no time to waste. The pressure on the blue bench is enormous, and the team, 16-time Colombian champions, cannot afford long transitions. González will have to show that he can get the best out of his current squad while waiting for signings to arrive that will allow him to strengthen key areas. His biggest challenge will be to solve the gang problem and keep the team competitive from the start.
