The finalists of the Bogotá Challenger were defined
This Saturday, Juan Sebastián Gómez starred in one of the great surprises at the Challenger in Bogotá. And there will be a 100% Colombian final.
Gómez faced the favorite of the draw, the Argentine Juan Pablo Ficovich and beat him 6-7 (5), 6-2 and 6-4.
This victory represents a significant surprise, since Gómez (997th ATP) came to the tournament from the qualifying phase, while Ficovich (167th) was one of the strong candidates for the title.
The 33-year-old local now waits for his compatriot Nicolás Mejía. The Colombian (216th) defeated the Argentine Facundo Mena (369th) 7-6 (6), 1-6 and 6-2a clash postponed on more than one occasion due to the rains.
It is worth remembering that the winner will take 75 ATP points and $14,200 in prizes. The tournament is held on clay courts and will award a total of $100,000 in prize money.
