The 2026/2027 Premier League will start on August 22
The Premier League confirmed this Friday the dates of the 2026/27 season, which will start on Saturday, August 22, 2026 and conclude on Sunday, May 30, 2027, with all the matches of the last day being played simultaneously, as usual.
Faced with an increasingly busy international calendar, the English league stressed that the “welfare of the players remains a priority”, and therefore, the competition will begin a week later than usual, allowing 89 days of rest from the end of the current campaign and 33 days from the final of the 2026 World Cup.
In addition, the season will end a week before the Champions League final, scheduled for June 5, 2027, to be played at the Metropolitano stadium in Madrid.
The 2026/27 academic year will include 33 competition weekends and five weekdays whose purpose is to “minimize conflicts with national competitions and with UEFA dates whenever possible.”
During the Christmas period, the Premier League assured that no two matchdays will be played within an interval of less than 60 hours, in compliance with the commitment made to the clubs to alleviate the traditional congestion of the Christmas and New Year calendar within the new expanded international framework.
In addition, the Premier stressed that in 2026 Boxing Day (December 26) will return to normal, with several matches being played that day, after only one match will be played in 2025.
