Norris vs Piastri vs Verstappen: possible scenarios for the F1 title

Norris and Piastri and Verstappen compete for the championship. Who will emerge victorious?

Three more races. Three pilots in the fight. A chance to achieve glory in the Formula 1 Drivers Championship of 2025.

After 21 races full of ups and downs, exciting unexpected turns, the fight for the 2025 drivers’ title is approaching its climax, and everything is still to be decided.

Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen They compete for the championship before a triple day of grand prizes that will define the title. Who will emerge victorious?

Before our protagonists return to the court, AM850 brings you up to date on this epic battle and where and why the championship could be won.

What is the current classification?

After a perfect weekend in Sao Paulo, Norris leads his teammate by 24 points. McLarenPiastri, as both young drivers seek their first F1 crown. Verstappen, four-time world champion with Red Bull, is 25 points behind.

George Russellof mercedesis fourth, but too far away to have a mathematical chance of winning the title.

Who is at their best?

While Verstappen won three of the four races leading up to the Mexican Grand Prix, the answer to that question right now is, without a doubt, Norris.

Norris, after having difficulties with the McLaren compared to his teammate at the beginning of the season, has achieved pole position and victory in two consecutive races – with a victory in the Interlagos Sprint -, quickly going from hunter to prey.

Piastri’s performance, on the other hand, has been on the decline. The Australian was the big favorite for his first title after winning the Dutch GP – which, added to Norris’ retirement, gave him a lead of 34 points – but he has not yet climbed to the top of the podium and has not even achieved a podium in the last four races.

This has catapulted Norris to the wheel of this fight for the title.

When could the title be decided at the earliest?

In the three remaining grands prix (25 points per victory) and the Sprint (eight points), a driver has a maximum of 83 points at stake, of which 58 will remain available after the next race in Las Vegas.

This means that Norris, even with a perfect weekend in which none of his rivals score, will not be able to secure the championship on the famous Strip, as he can only extend his lead to a maximum of 49 points.

The title could therefore be won sooner in Qatar, where a driver would need a lead of at least 26 points over the second-place finisher.

Four second places in the races and the Sprint would be enough for Norris to win, while Piastri and, above all, Verstappen, trust that the Briton will have some problem.

What else is at stake in the final races?

Beyond the fight for the drivers’ title – with the constructors’ title already secured by McLaren – the most exciting battle in the final triple day is fought between the giants Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari.

The three teams are vying for second place in the team standings, crucial for prizes and momentum.

The lower a team is in the final standings, the more time they will be allowed in the wind tunnel to work on next season’s car. And with a major rule overhaul scheduled for 2026, finishing fourth instead of second might not be so bad.

After a good weekend in Sao Paulo, Mercedes is second with 398 points, with Verstappen’s Red Bull 30 points behind.

After a disastrous double retirement, Ferrari is fourth with 362 points.
