A journalist is attacked while broadcasting a rugby match
A journalist from ‘Ici Pays basque’ was attacked this Friday while broadcasting live by some Stade Aurillacois fans, visibly upset by their enthusiasm after their club’s defeat against Biarritz Olympique, as reported by the station on Saturday.
The journalist Thomas Palmier, who was commenting on this Pro D2 rugby match at the Jean-Alric de Aurillac stadium, “He was hit at least twice at the end of the game by fans behind him.“Ttotte Darguy, director of Ici Pays Basque, explained to AFP.
In an audio fragment of his live broadcast, the journalist is heard exclaiming, a few seconds after a Biarritz try that ended the match: “The BO has achieved it! What a match! (…) Do you want to hit me? But stop, sit down, let me work. (…) Go home, don’t hit me like that“.
In a statement, The management of the ICI chain and ICI Pays Basque “firmly condemned these intolerable attacks” against the “violently attacked” journalist.
The National Rugby League (LNR) also condemned on Saturday “with the greatest firmness the attack of which a journalist from the Ici Pays Basque radio station was the victim”, denouncing “inadmissible facts.”
“The LNR begins an investigation to clarify this incident and give it the appropriate course,” he stressed in his statement.
On Friday night, the Stade Aurillacois was also quick to show its support for the attacked journalist, promising in X “do everything possible to identify the culprits“.
