Angolan Bruno Fernando signs for Pablo Laso’s Efes for two seasons
The Angolan center Bruno Fernando became a new player for Anadolu Efes, coached by the Spanish Pablo Laso, for the next two seasons, as reported by the Turkish club this Friday.
Bruno Afonso David Fernandes, usually known as Bruno Fernando, arrives from Partizan Belgrade, where he landed with the season already started after leaving Real Madrid.
Since his arrival in Serbia, he became an important part of the interior game of Spanish Joan Peñarroya’s team, with whom he averaged 7.1 points, 4 rebounds and a PIR of 8.7.
The center arrived in Europe with Real Madrid in the 2024-2025 season, after training at the University of Maryland and trying his luck in the NBA, where he wore the jerseys of the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors.
Under the orders of Chus Mateo, current Spanish coach, the center stated in an interview with EFE last summer that he suffered an anxiety attack against Unicaja in the second game of the Endesa League semifinals, due to a “cluster of frustration that he had been accumulating for a long time” and that he needed to “explode” to recover a better version of himself.
Afrobasket champion in the summer with Angola and under the orders of the Spanish Pep Clarós, he left Real Madrid in the month of October after failing to convince the Italian coach Sergio Scariolo.
Now, he will play for Anadolu Efes until 2028, and will replace another former Madrid player, the Frenchman Vincent Poirier, who ended his relationship with the team last month. Fernando thus joins the additions of Santi Yusta, Dario Saric and Matthew Strazel.
