The Government supports Spain’s candidacy to organize the 2035 Men’s XV Rugby World Cup
With this agreement, the Government formally expresses its support for a project that offers a strategic opportunity to strengthen the international projection of Spain, in line with other candidacies promoted in recent years, such as the 2030 soccer World Cup or the 2031 golf Ryder Cup.
“This commitment to major sporting events is allowing us to consolidate a successful model based on collaboration with national federations, organizational solvency and the international projection of Spain, in coordination with other Administrations,” said the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Milagros Tolón.
The Men’s Rugby World Cup XV It is one of the sporting events with the greatest global impact, with an extraordinary impact in sporting, tourist, social and economic terms for the host territory, as has been demonstrated in its previous editions.
Government support also represents recognition of the growth experienced by Spanish rugby in recent years, both in participation and social following as well as in organizational capacity, consolidating Spain as an increasingly relevant actor on the international panorama of this sport.
In that context, Valladolid will host from May 29 to 31 the World Serieswhose organization in 2026 and 2027 in our country has the support of the Government of Spain, through a subsidy of 1.5 million euros granted by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation.
With the support of the candidacy for the 2035 World Cup event, the Government of Spain once again reaffirms its commitment to promoting sport as a tool for social transformation, international projection and economic development.
And, in the words of the head of the Sports portfolio, “this candidacy transcends the strictly sporting field and aspires to leave a social, territorial and economic legacy throughout Spain, contributing to the development of rugby and the promotion of the values associated with this sport, such as respect, teamwork and fair play.”
