The Government shows its support for Spain’s candidacy for the Rugby World Cup in 2035

Milagros Tolón, Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, received this Tuesday Alan Gilpin, CEO of World Rugby, to show the Government’s support for the candidacy of the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation to organize the 2035 World Cup.

“This is a differential project, good for our country. Rugby is a sport with exportable values ​​not only to the sports community, but to the entire society. The Rugby World Cup is a very important milestone. A huge event, with a huge impact on the economy“said Juan Carlos Martín ‘Hansen’, president of the Federation, who highlighted the values ​​of this sport.

For his part, Alan Gilpin highlighted the importance that sport is gaining in Spain: “It is a pleasure to be in Spain and listen to Spain talk about rugby. Added to this is the ambition and human quality of the management team of the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation to be able to compete for the 2035 World Cup. The candidacy is built with leadership, institutional support and with one objective: global growth.”

The head of Education, Vocational Training and Sports stressed that Spain’s candidacy “meets all the conditions to turn this World Cup into a collective success.”

“We have organizational experience, top-level infrastructure and a citizenry that understands sport as a space for meeting, coexistence and shared celebration,” he added.

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), was also present at the event.

Spain aspires to organize a Webb Ellis Cup in 2035 for the first time in its history, which has been held since Australia and New Zealand held the first edition in 1987. Before, it is now official that Valladolid will host the Finals of the Sevens World Series from May 29 to 31.
