What we appreciate about the 2025 MLB season this Thanksgiving
This year we experienced a historic campaign that brought with it one of the best closings in recent memory.
Is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, a date that invites us to look back on the year, remember what we saw and experienced, while being grateful for each of those moments, with expectations that we will soon witness more.
Putting this in perspective, when we think about the 2025 season of the Major Leaguesthere is no doubt that we had the opportunity to see a historic year, with new beginnings, memorable endings and performances that we will remember for decades, making the recently completed campaign an extremely special one.
Why are we thankful for the 2025 MLB season? There are many reasons, but here we present five of the main ones.
ANOTHER MAGNIFICENT SEASON FROM SHOHEI OHTANI AND AARON JUDGE
Aaron Judge He is the best right-handed hitter of this generation. There are those who dare to call it the “Barry Bonds right” after his tenth campaign in MLB. Without going to those extremes, it is true that Judge has proven to be on a level all to himself, with no one particularly close by in the American League and probably in all of baseball.
This year he had a fierce battle for the prize MVP with the receiver Cal Raleighbut when he finishes as a leader in practically all offensive departments, we are facing a season of historic proportions that made him the MVP of the “Young Circuit” for the second year in a row.
And what more can we say about Shohei Ohtani. Probably the most surprising player in the history of the sport. Also a leader in multiple offensive categories and once again above 50 home runs, Ohtani continues to dazzle in every appearance on the field.
It is therefore not surprising that it was MVP unanimously, receiving his third consecutive award and fourth in total, becoming the second player with the most awards in history, only behind the aforementioned Bonds.
We are fortunate to see a player of that level in our times, something that has never been experienced in the same way in previous decades.
A WORLD SERIES FOR HISTORY
Going into the 2025 season, probably no one outside of Toronto imagined seeing the Blue Jays in the World Seriesbut against all odds and after more than three decades, the team reached the stage and gave us, along with the Dodgers, one of the best series in recent history.
Seven games that kept us glued to the television, full of alternatives, with performances that elevated several players to the level of superstars, and with superb displays like those of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Every game left us wanting more baseball, even the one that went to 18 innings.
A STORYBOOK GOODBYE TO CLAYTON KERSHAW
It’s rare to see legends retire at the top, but like a movie script, Clayton Kershaw had the opportunity to do so with the Dodgerssaying goodbye with his third ring World Series and celebrating with the fans, as the greats deserve.
Now we just have to wait to hear his name as a future member of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame years from now, the final destination of one of the greatest careers for a pitcher in the history of the game.
PAUL SKENES IS THE FUTURE OF THE MAJOR LEAGUE
Today we have great pitchers doing wonderful things in MLBbut probably none generates more expectations for the future than Paul Skeneseven playing for the Pirates.
In just two seasons he has established himself as the game’s next great ace and we can’t wait to see him on the stage that deserves it most, the postseason, whether in Pittsburgh or in another uniform.
Your prize Cy Youngbarely a year after having been Rookie of the Year of the National Leaguetalks about his growth and that we are dealing with someone truly special.
A GREAT YEAR FOR LATIN STARS
Latin stars starred in great moments throughout 2025. Since the debut of Juan Soto with the Mets after signing the largest contract in the history of professional sports, until the return, again, of Jose Ramirez to the elite in the American League and the rise of a future star like Junoir Caminero. The great seasons of Christopher Sanchez and Freddy Peraltathe iconic moments of Javy Baezand the actions of Francisco Lindor and Gleyber Torres As essential figures, they are only part of the Latino impact during the year.
In the postseason, Alexander Kirk, Andres Gimenez, Teoscar Hernandez, Kike Hernandez and several more established themselves as protagonists in the moments of greatest pressure, reaffirming the enormous weight of Latinos in the modern game.
When we look back at everything that 2025 left behind, we will be able to appreciate that we lived through a season that exceeded any expectations. We had stars in their maximum splendor, improbable stories that ended in glory, farewells that will be recorded forever and new figures who already write the future of sport.
MLB He gave us great moments, while reminding us, once again, why baseball is so special. If this campaign left us with anything, it was the certainty that 2025 was not just another year, but one that will be marked as one of the most memorable chapters in the modern history of the league.
