The first Toronto base finally reached an agreement with the team to remain there for the rest of his career in Major Leagues.

Toronto – The first base Vladimir Guerrero and the Toronto Blue Jays agreed to an extension of the contract of 14 years and 500 million dollars, after exceeding the physical exams, Fuentes told Jeff Passan of AM850 on Sunday night.

This is a monumental agreement, without postponement, to keep the star in Toronto for the rest of her career, and arrives when the Blue Jays, with 5-5 record are in the middle of a trip that takes them to Fenway Park to measure Boston Red Sox on Monday.

Guerrero, 26, four times appointed the game of stars and son of the member of the Hall of Fame, Vladimir Guerrero, said he would not negotiate during the season, after both parties did not reach an agreement rather than reported to Spring Training. Both sides continued the conversations and reached an agreement that will be the third largest in the history of Major Leagues, only behind the 15 years and 765 million dollars of Juan Soto with the New York Mets and the 10 years and 700 million dollars of Shohei Ohtani with Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Blue Jays suffered a disappointment recently when Soto and Ohtani signed on other sides, but received a long -term commitment of their greatest talent from the member of the Hall of Fame, Roy found.

They tried to sign Guerrero in the long term for years, without getting it. Toronto had a sample of Vladimir’s talent when he debuted shortly after his 20th birthday in 2019 and hit 15 home runs as a rookie. His irruption season came in 2021, when Guerrero finished second in the MVP vote of the American League, behind Aaron Judge, after hitting .311/.401/.601 with 48 homers and 111 produced.

Guerrero continued with a couple of solid seasons, but under the expectations in 2022 and 2023, already half of May 2024 had an PAHO below .750, while the Blue Jays had problems and ended last. In his last 116 games, the 2021 warrior resurfaced, hitting .343/.407/.604 with 26 home runs and 84 produced.

With a payroll that is expected to exceed the luxury tax of 241 million dollars, the Blue Jays finished the first week of the season at the head of the East Division of the American League. Toronto fell to 5-3 on Friday after a defeat against Mets, in which Guerrero had a couple of singles, to raise his numbers A .267/.343/.367.

Between Guerrero and the Shortstop Bo Bichette, who will be free agent after 2025, the Blue Jays faced a readjustment. While Bichette is expected to play during the season before exploring the market, the agreement with Guerrero reduces Toronto’s disappointment after Ohtani’s failed persecutions in 2023 and Soto in 2024.

In addition to Soto, Toronto saw the signing of the first base Pete Alonso with Mets, of the left -handed Max Fried with New York Yankees and the infielder Alex Bregman with the Boston Red Sox to improve their rosters. Toronto gave the gardener Anthony Santander a contract of five years and 92.5 million dollars, he took the services of the future member of the Hall of Fame, Max Scherzer for one year and 15.5 million, improved his bullpen with the rights Jeff Hoffman and Yimi Garcia and made a change by the winner of the silver glove, the second base Andres Gimenez.

Toronto’s long -term agreements will give some financial flexibility for the future. In addition to Bichette and Scherzer, the right Chris Bassitt and the reliefs Chad Green and Erik Swanson are free agents after the season. After 2026, the gardener George Springer and the right Kevin Gausman, with nine -digit contracts will leave the books as well.

Building around Guerrero is a good place to start. It is one of a dozen MLB players with at least two seasons of six or more triumphs over replacement since 2021, Vladimir is consistently among MLB leaders in impacts with greater force, a metric that normally means great success.

Like his father, who hit 449 homers and hit .318 In 16 years of career, Guerrero has unusual qualities with the Bat, especially for a player with so much power. In his six seasons in MLB, Guerrero has hit .288/.363/.499 with 160 homers, 510 produced and 559 strikeouts, in addition to 353 bases per ball.

With the extension, Guerrero is expected to continue on the first base and re -establish the market that was headed by the eight -year agreement, 248 million dollars that Miguel Cabrera signed just before his 31st birthday in 2014.
