The hard criticism of an Irish to the 20 -minute Red: “We are going on a slippery path”
The controversial play in which the Pedato Mauvaka player was sanctioned for applying a header against Ben White, in the triumph of France in view of Scotland by him Six nationscontinues in the center of the scene and now added a new chapter. The former Irish player Bernard Jackman considered, in the column he usually writes for the Irish Independent medium, which “The use of the 20 -minute red card has not worked”.
This new rule was released for six 2025 nations and stipulates that a player who saw a red card for applying a technical foul can be replaced by a partner once 20 minutes pass, in an initiative aimed at punishing the players and not the teams.
In this case, Mauvaka received a yellow card and was sent to Sin Bin for a space of 10 minutes, but then referee Matthew Carley reviewed the play at the instances of the dirty game referee, Ian Tempest, and between them they determined that the actions of the French player did not threaten a red card and that is why he could continue playing.
However, and in a later instance, the independent disciplinary committee determined that Pedato Mauvaka was declared guilty of dirty play and applied three suspension dates for its indisciplined action.
“A change that has not worked is that of the 20 -minute red card. If we want the game to be safer, the dangerous faults should be sanctioned with the direct red and the team must assume the risk of what they entail,”Bernard Jackman wrote in The Irish Independent.
And he added: “I don’t see mitigating factor. The fact that the referee’s decision was only a yellow of 10 minutes helped France win the game. While the French are fair champions, acts like this must be punished at the time. We are going by a slippery path if we prioritize entertainment over security”.
