The best and the worst of the Dominicans in the first half of the MLB season
We review the moments of greatest impact that the Quisqueyanos players lived in the 2025 major league campaign.
The first half of the 2025 season of the Major Leagues officially is in the books, as well as the festivities of the Star setso time is conducive to paying balance to what has been the Dominican performance throughout the first part of a campaign that has been full of emotions.
Like all nations represented in MLBthe Dominican squad, which started the year with 100 players distributed among the 30 teams according to information provided by the same league at the end of March this year, has a significant number of stars that take an important part of the attention and which, in general terms, have met the expectations about them.
However, there are other cases in which the situation is different and players from which a lot is expected, so far they have not sustained their best version.
Taking all that into account we reviewed what was the first half for the Dominican Republic and where was the good and the bad thing so far this season.
Good
Starting with a positive note, Framber Valdez (Houston Astros) and Freddy Peralta (Milwaukee Brewers) have been simply wonderful so far this year, being, without a doubt, two of the best Dominican openers in 2025.
For Valdez, a solid year becomes mandatory, taking into account that he will become a free agent at the end of the campaign. So far, it maintains an effectiveness of 2.75 in 121 entries released, with 125 strikeouts and a 1.124 whip, numbers that are below their career averages.
Peralta, who is a solid candidate to be considered the best Dominican pitcher of the year, accumulates an effectiveness of 2.66 in 111.2 work innings, with 118 strikeouts and a 1,057 whip, being so far the real ace of rotation of the brewers that has always been expected.
Another opener that has been extremely solid is Cristopher Sánchez (Philadelphia Phillies), who accumulates a 4.6 WAR in 2025, courtesy of an effectiveness of 2.50 in 19 games and a total domain of the opposite batters, being a vital piece of the philadelphia rotation.
Continuing with the theme of the pitchers, we must talk about the reliever Carlos Estévezwho is taking advantage of his season with Kansas City Royals, being the leader of salvages of the American League with 25, while its effectiveness is maintained in 2.36. Another story of pitchers that is worth rescuing from the first half is that of Emmanuel Class.
Class had a start of the season for oblivion, being considerably punished in its first 15 appearances, where it was effective of 6.28, despite the fact that its independent defense picheo (FIP) was only 2.87, however, the results were not there for the Dominican, who tolerated 23 hits, 10 annotations and struck out 14 in 14.1 job entries.
Since then, Class has turned the page, taking its season results to more acceptable numbers as an effectiveness of 2.91 in 43.1 innings and accumulating 20 salvages, although their numbers still significantly distance themselves from what he has shown in his career.
Speaking of redemption stories, Juan Sotoprobably, be one of the best stories of the 2025 season for the Dominican Republic. The New York Mets gardener had two months to forget at the offensive level, which ended up turning in June, where he won the honors of the player of the month.
So far beat .262 with PAHOs of .905, 23 home runs and 56 towed in the campaign.
Jeremy Peña (Houston Astros) is another of the great stories of 2025, finally showing the version we saw in the Playoffs of 2022, where he was elected most valuable player of the American League championship series, as well as the World Series.
It has been, offensively speaking, the best campocorto of the “young circuit”, batting for .322 with PAHO of .867 and PAHO+ of 141.
José Ramírez (Cleveland Guardians) is another that does not need a presentation letter, being in the middle of another year in 2025. “The for” has been spectacular with the wood and goes to another season of 30 homers and 30 stolen bases. So far it accumulates 18 flycracks and 29 scams, while hitting .295 with PAHOs of .869 and PAHO+ of 140.
Manny Machado (San Diego Padres) is another player who has been extremely well in general terms in 2025. “The minister” beats .292 with PAHO.
Ketel Marsprobably, it has been the best Dominican batter of what goes for the season, batting for .290 with PAHOs of .961 and PAHO+ of 165, while accumulating 19 home runs and 40 towed. He has been hitting throughout the year, except for several games that he lost to health issues.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto Blue Jays) It is another positive stories of the 2025 season. The Dominican achieved a contractual extension for 500 million dollars with the Blue Jays and has had a solid year, although slightly below, in which he beats for .277 with .818 and PAHOs+ of 127.
BAD
Unfortunately, not everything has been happy stories for the Dominicans in 2025.
The first part of the season has been a complete disaster for Sandy Alcántara (Miami Marlins) represented a complete disaster. The Cy Young of the 2022 season comes from a Tommy John surgery and its results in 2025 have been on the ground.
Alcántara has an effectiveness of 7.22 and a WAR of -1.6 in 91 job entries, while its whip is 1,484, representing, so far, its worst season in MLB.
Rafael Devers and Willy Adames (San Francisco Giants) are two more cases of negative situations so far this year.
Starting with Devers, he had multiple problems with Boston Red Sox and ended up being changed in mid -June to the Giants, where, unfortunately, he has not been able to hit. Despite having closed his stage in Boston hitting extremely well, after 25 games in San Francisco, things have not looked well for Devers. As part of the giants barely bat for .202 with OPS of .656, two homers and 10 towed, very distant from what he had done throughout the year with Boston.
Adames, on his side, arrived in San Francisco with the largest contract granted in the history of the franchise and its initial results are negative. Barely beat.
Marcell Ozuna (Atlanta Braves), like his team, has been well below the previously demonstrated, hitting for only .239 with PAHOs of .762, 13 home runs and 42 towed, when between 2023 and 2024 it was the cornerstone of the Braves offensive.
Julio Rodríguez (Seattle Mariners) has been a complete disaster in 2025, regardless of whether it was chosen as a reserve for the MLB stars game. “J-ROD” beats for an .252 anemic, while your PAHO is located in .731, having triggered 14 home runs and towing 50 laps. In the last stretch of the first part of the season, it closed well, which hope that a solid second half can have.
What follows
The major leagues will begin again from July 18, where the Dominican troop will return to action for the second part of the 2025 campaign.
