Stars sink Águilas in round robin in Dominican League

Estrellas Orientales reaches the lead and Águilas Cibaeñas sinks to the bottom of the round robin in the Dominican League


The Estrellas Orientales defeated the Águilas Cibaeñas 6-0, giving them their third consecutive defeat and sending them to last place in the round-robin semifinal round of the Dominican Baseball League.

José Barrera hit a solo home run, Rodolfo Castro added two doubles with one RBI and one scored and Kelvin Gutiérrez drove in one more with a double.

In Santo Domingo, Junior Caminero went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, Jean Segura went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, and Sócrates Brito added a solo home run to lead the Leones del Chosen to an 8-1 victory over the Tigres del Licey.

Tigres and Estrellas lead the round robin with a 4-2 record, followed by Leones (3-3) and Águilas (1-5).

The Águilas del Zulia came back on Tuesday to defeat the Tigres de Aragua 8-5, who lost their sixth game in a row and sank into last place in the round-robin round that defines the finalists of the Venezuelan League of Baseball.

José Herrera hit a two-run home run and Simón Muzziotti went 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Águilas, who with the result tied for second place in the tie.

In Valencia, Alberth Martínez went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, while Tucupita Marcano and Gabriel Arias each contributed with a home run and two RBIs, so that the Navegantes del Magallanes beat the Cardinals of Lara.

The Cardinals lead the round robin with a record of 6-2, followed by Bravos de Margarita (5-3), Águilas (5-3), Navegantes (3-5) and Tigres de Aragua (1-7).
