Spain is seventh in New York after losing to France and beating Great Britain

The Spanish rugby 7 team has been seventh in the New York tournament (United States), sixth and final stage of the regular phase of the World Seriesafter a Sunday day in which they lost against France (5-36) and beat Great Britain (24-12).

Spain did not appear in the morning duel against the French Olympic champions, who took the lead after two minutes thanks to Simon Desert, who took advantage of a very powerful ‘counter-ruck’ by his forwards, and extended their advantage with a break from scrum-half Maxime Granell.

Halfway through the first half, Manu Moreno was excluded for cutting off a pass with his hand and Josselin Bouhier took advantage of the two minutes of numerical superiority to score a double that left the match sentenced to halftime (0-24).

Moreno culminated a Spanish attack from side to side to save their honor but France aggravated the defeat in the final moments with two tries by Jordan Sepho, whom the ‘Lions’ defenders did not even pursue in their long solitary runs towards the goal area.

The national team finished the New York tournament the same as it started: with a victory over Great Britain, for which the speed of its winger Ryan Apps was not enough, author of the two tries with which it took the lead in the first half, in which Spain with a personal play by Eduardo López (7-12).

A personal play by Manu Moreno put Spain ahead as soon as the second half began, in which it was enough for the ‘Lions’ to contain the British attacks and take advantage of their turnovers to secure the victory with a second try by López and another by Jaime Manteca, who attacked alone from the base of a ‘ruck’.

The 8 points added by Spain in the American stage bring their total to 62, which is enough for them to finish the regular phase in seventh place, only ahead of Great Britain, down with 42 points after being last in four tournaments and penultimate in the other two.
