From this weekend, the FIA will harden the flexibility controls of the front wings and the equipment had to make modifications. What will be the most affected?

Day D arrived, or, rather, over the weekend D. The ten teams of Formula 1 have the GP of Spain highlighted from the preseason, when they were notified by the FIA that from the ninth appointment of 2025 the TD018 technical regulations would enter into force by which the controls on the flexibility of the front wings would be hard for. The International Automobile Federation determined the modification for after eight disputed races because they were very much about the start of the tournament and could have generated capital inconveniences in the scrutinists if it began from the Australian GP, the first date.

What is all this? Since 2024, the altitious definition cameras that F1 places in the cars revealed the flexion of the ailerons. In the case of the rear, as in the McLaren MCL38, the Mini Drs was generated. The control of the posterior wings was reinforced from the start and for the third appointment the theme was closedto. As for the front, the reinforcement will arrive in Montmeló. The flexibility of high -speed spoilers could generate a reduction in the Drag (advance resistance) and even change aerodynamic balance in slow speed.

From this weekend, ailerons must overcome a static test in which 100 kilos of vertical symmetrical load will be put on both sides and must give a maximum flexion of ten millimeters. When tested on a single side of the wing, it must not exceed 15 mm (it was 20 to Monaco). In the case of the flap, the starting edge cannot be diverted more than three millimeters before a six kilos load (it was five to the previous appointment).

“All ailerons have flexion, the issue is which more flexion. That will be the one who loses,” they told AM850.com during the weekend of the Emilia-Romagna GP. Will the destination of the World Cup change from this? There are few teams that expect to make a competitiveness leap with modifications. There is something safe, the ten teams had to put hands to the front wing to be able to comply with the regulations from Spain.

“When the battles for the title become intense, the teams tend to focus a lot on the cars of others and during the second half of last season we conclude that we needed to harden the tests for 2025 a little more,” said Nikolas Tomazis, with the past in Benetton, Ferrari, McLaren, Manor and who today occupies the position of director of monoplays of the FIA. “The regulations of 2025 were designed to counteract the so -called Mini DRS that became a conversation issue. That test was applied since the beginning of the season, but it was soon evident that it was insufficient. The FIA includes more flexibility or rigidity tests when it considers that there is an area that can be too exploited,” added the Greek.

Of course, until the track is reached in Montmeló there will not be a clear panorama of who lost more with the change, although in the previous one all are cautious. “It can be a radical change for all, because we do not know the impact that the new regulation on each team will have. We will focus on this to better make the new front wing better,” said Frédéric Vasseur, director of Ferrari, a team to which nothing could come bad than the hardening of the regulations would generate a change in the fight for the top. Charles Leclerc, scuderia pilot, hopes that the change will bring them closer to McLaren. “I really hope yes, but I don’t know. I don’t know how much others are using it. You can hear rumors in the paddock and some people will look more affected than others, sure. I don’t think it will change much on our part, but we’ll see.”

Christian Horner, director of Red Bull, said: “It may not have any impact on the order of departure, but it is a change and will affect all teams. Perhaps neutrally, but it will have an impact. What we do not know is how they will affect each team. It is a significant change, so, of course, it will have some effect.” Max Verstappen left his opinion in the previous Barcelona: “For us there will be no changes. I can say it quite sure. I think those wings never gave us a significant improvement in performance. I do not know if we were wrong or did not know how to make the most of them.”

Franco Colapinto, Alpine pilot, left his sensations regarding change: “We do not know what will happen. We will have to try Friday, it will be proof and error. The teams need to change, I do not think it affects us a lot. Hopefully it complicates others more and we can get some performance. It will be complicated, we need to understand the way.”

Will the World Cup change from this weekend? Everything will be seen on the track. McLaren reached the weekend D as the great dominator.
