Sophie Cunningham reaches agreement to return to Indiana Fever

Free agent guard Sophie Cunningham will return to the Fever on a one-year deal.

The free agent Sophie Cunningham agreed to a one-year contract to return to the Indiana Fever, as announced by the team this Sunday.

Cunningham joins the escorts Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull as free agents returning to the Fever after reaching the semi-finals last year.

Indiana, which already has the young stars under contract Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, has also incorporated newcomers Monique Billings and Ty Harris during free agency.

Last season, Cunningham averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds and shot over 43% from 3-point range in 30 games before suffering a season-ending torn MCL in his right knee in August.

Cunningham became an Indiana fan favorite after this play:

The 1.85 meter (6’1”) guard spent the first six years of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, before the Fever acquired her in a four-way deal prior to the start of the 2025 season.

Phoenix selected Cunningham in the second round of the 2019 draft, after an outstanding college career at Missouri.
