Paul Skenes presumes the second best effectiveness of the National League, but has failed to sign his victory five of the year

Pittsburgh – Paul Skenes is in a routine.

Launch until the end of the game. Allow a single race, at most. Go without decision, leave without victory.

That did not change on Sunday. The 23 -year -old Ace of the Pittsburgh Pirates launched 7.2 entries against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing a dirty race with two hits, seven strikeouts and a ball base. He was removed with the game tied for a race.

Skenes maintains 4-6 record in its second season despite lowering its effectiveness to 1.88, the second best of the National League, behind Kodai Senga of the New York Mets (1.59).

This time, he didn’t care about the decision. Pittsburgh won 2-1, completing a sweep of three games and giving Philadelphia his fifth consecutive defeat.

“I think we have been playing quite well lately and we have not achieved victories or we have lost for a race or something in several games,” said Skenes. “I am happy with the baseball that we have been playing. It is good to finally get some victories. It is easy to fall into a loss streak, so we simply have to move on.”

Skenes made 97 launches (62 strikes). Surpassed the first two batters of the eighth with four releases before the manager Don Kelly He gave the signal to the rookie right Braxton Ashcraft, who entered while the boors of the fans for the decision calmed down.

“We felt (Skenes) was finished,” Kelly said. “He left the skin at that entrance. I felt it was an opportunity to go for Ashcraft at that time.”

“Incredible. What can be said (Skenes)? He continued to fill the Strike area, with exceptional talent. At the beginning, very precise. In the middle, it seemed that he escaped. That is what he has shown: that he can control the rhythm and master the Strike area. Today he was incredible again.

Ashcraft won his first victory in the Major after Andrew McCutchen connected a single with the broken bat for the advantage in the eighth.

The 25 -year -old began with a ball base to Brandon Marsh, but recovered by getting Rafael to march a Roletazo to Second. Upon returning for the ninth, he forced Alec Bohm to a double slaughter that sentenced the game while it began to rain to jugs.

“It means a lot that someone has a really good performance,” Ashcraft said. “(Skenes) has done it consistently this year. It means a lot for us, as a team, to be able to go out and get that victory. He did not win. I won. But, well, he received it as much as me.

It was nothing out of the ordinary. Skenes allowed a race and three hits with eight strikeouts in eight entries against the Houston stars on Tuesday at their previous exit, but the pirates lost 3-0.

Skenes has a 1-4 mark in its last eight openings, although it has only allowed five races in 42⅓ entries in the last six. Pittsburgh has averaged 3.35 races in its 14 openings and has a 0-2 mark in three games that have reached the eighth, despite allowing three races in total (two clean).

Cristopher Sánchez almost matched Skenes on Sunday, allowing two races and struggling nine in seven tickets.

Skenes seems good to duel with another starter, but the alternative does not bother him.

“It’s fun,” said Skenes. “Shiping in games with a 10-0 mark is too.”
