Sergio Higuita, new signing of Caja Rural for 2027

The Colombian cyclist Sergio Higuitauntil now in the ranks of the XDS Astana Team, will be part of the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA staff for two seasonsuntil the end of 2028, as reported by the squad in a statement.

“I have seen Caja Rural as a very familiar team. I like it as a project and that’s why I was convinced to join the team.. There is also something special, and that is that the team’s color is green and white, just like the region where I live, which is Antioquia, in Colombia. I’m going to carry it as if it were my flag, with all my heart,” said the cyclist in an interview with his new team.

In addition to his two seasons with the Kazakh team, Higuita, 29, passed through the ranks of EF Education and Red Bull -BORA-hansgrohe. In his professional career, he has accumulated ten victories, including a stage in the 2019 Vuelta a España, two online Colombian national championships and the overall victory in the 2022 Volta a Catalunya.

He has also participated four times in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. This season, he was second overall in the Tour of AlUla in January, top ten in three stages in the Tour de Romandie and ninth overall in the Tour of Switzerland.

“I really like, when I’m good, to be an aggressive runner, who attacks from afar and who is not afraid. I have a lot of experience, so I think I can transmit confidence and tranquility. I hope to bring that Colombian attitude, we are happy. I want to do the best possible,” added Higuita.

“The South American cyclist, one of the most relevant riders in his country in recent years, will contribute his experience and know-how to a team that continues to demonstrate its ambition to grow,” Caja Rural noted in its statement.
