San Juan defeats Santurce and gets a ticket to the championship series in its return season after 10 years of absence in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A home run by Brantley Bell in the tenth inning gave the Senators of San Juan a 2-0 victory over the Cangrejeros de Santurce, on Sunday, to earn their place in the League Final Series of Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball (LBPRC).

San Juan took the series 4-1 and will be in the Final Series for the first time since 1997-1998, which was its season of return to winter baseball after a 10-year absence. The last time they won the title was in the 1994-1995 season.

The Cangrejeros managed to load the bases against reliever Ralph Garza Jr., after two outs, in the eighth inning. However, the right-hander tightened his arm and retired Jack López by striking out to close the episode.

In the tenth José Mesa Jr. came in to pitch for Cangrejeros and with one out Bell hit a home run down the left field. Then, Kenen Irizarry hit a double to right, and later scored with two outs on a single by Jan Hernánde off Zack Leban.

The victory belonged to Garza Jr. (1-0) after pitching one and a third innings of two hits. Mesa Jr. (0-1) took the setback.

INDIANS LEAD 3-2 TO CRIOLLOS

An unstoppable hit by Anthony García in the tenth inning left the Criollos de Caguas on the field and the Indios de Mayagüez won, 5-4.

The Indians took command of the series 3-2 and have the opportunity to finish the series on Tuesday, when they visit the Criollos.

With the game tied 4-4, veteran Indians outfielder Danny Ortiz reached second due to an error by Luis Vázquez in his throw to first base. Then, he reached third base with a sacrifice bunt by Martín “Machete” Maldonado and three batters later he came to the plate with a single to center field to make it 5-4.

The victory belonged to Justin Yeager (1-0) after pitching the last two innings of the game, in which he allowed one run, allowed three hits, gave up three free walks and struck out two. The defeat was for Ángel Reyes (0-2) after allowing the winning run.
