Seixas, youngest winner of the Giro de Lombardia: “It seems like a dream”
Paul Seixas, the young French promise of cycling, made history this Saturday in the Tour of Lombardy when he became, at the age of 20, the youngest test winner. Seixas launched an attack about 20 kilometers from the finish to win this northern Italian classic, dominated for the previous five years by Tadej Pogačar, who is currently injured.
“I had a feeling today would be a great day. It seems like a dream,” declared Seixas, savoring victory after almost six hours of racing. The Spanish Enric Mas, stage winner in the Vuelta, crossed the finish line in second position, 48 seconds behind, followed by the Italian Giulio Ciccone.
Seixas finished fourth in the general classification of this summer’s Tour de France, in which he was making his debut. Likewise, this season he became the youngest winner of the Fleche Wallonne at 19 years old and was second—behind Pogačar, five-time Tour champion—in the Strade Bianche and in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
