The Buenos Aires Amateur Hockey Association ordered a change in the short corner starting with the 2025 Metropolitan Tournament. This ruling will be applied in the men’s tournament A and B, while in the women’s tournament in categories A, B and C. It will also be used in Buenos Aires Cup matches. The goal is “respect the regulatory spirit involved in the execution of said play and optimize the gaming experience“, according to the official bulletin.

Starting this year, every time a penalty corner is taken, time will stop for 80 secondswith the idea that the defenders and/or forwards have the necessary time to prepare. After those seconds, the table judge will give the order to the referee, who in turn will give the order to the server. If a team is not ready, it will be sanctioned with a green card.

If the offender is a defender or the goalkeeperthe team will defend with one less. If it is the goalkeeper, one of the players defending the penalty corner will have to leave with a green card, at the choice of the defenders themselves. If the player already had a green card, he will be sanctioned with a five-minute yellow card.

In addition, In 2025, the FIH regulations on the protections allowed in the short corner must be respected. This will apply to both the Metropolitan Tournament and the Buenos Aires Cup. The rule states that players may wear hand protection as long as it does not significantly increase the size of their hands, and field players are permitted to wear body protection under normal playing clothing, including leg protection or knee pads for defense. the short corner – in this case they can go outside the tights.
