Rockies (8-42) signs the worst start in 50 games in the modern era
Rockies was bleached and swept in the series by Phillies, this Thursday, so its brand falls to 8-42
Denver-Ranger Suárez launched to the seventh entrance to overcome Germán Márquez, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0, on Thursday, to sweep a series of four games. The defeat worsens the Colorado brand at 8-42, the worst start of 50 games in the MLB modern era (since 1901). Before that, you have to go back to Louisville Colonels of 1895 (7-43) to find a worse start.
The rockies have a 5-20 record at home and are on their way to lose 136 games this season, which would make them Cleveland Spiders of 1899 (20-134) with the greatest amount of defeats in the history of a MLB team. The Chicago White Sox established the record of the modern era of more defeats last season with 121.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, has won seven consecutive games and 11 of his last 12 as a visitor, on the way to the best brand of 50 games (32-18) in the National League this season. Phillies have won four consecutive series as visitors. They have also won the seven games against the rockies this season, the first time in the history of the franchise that sweep a series of at least seven games.
Suarez (3-0) struck out six and gave three bases for balls in 6.2 inputs. He came out after allowing a double with two outs to Jordan Beck and a ball base to Ezequiel Tovar.
Orion Kerkering entered and retired to Hunter Goodman with a single release to end the threat. Jordan Romano took out the last three outs for his sixth rescue.
Márquez (1-7) allowed two races, a clean, with four hits, struck out five and gave two bases for balls.
“I feel that every day is our day, and we have to go out and do our best to win,” Márquez told journalists after the game. “I feel we need to be together, and I feel that we are closer to that point.”
Márquez gave Kyle Schwarber baseline to open the seventh inning and Max Kepler drove it with a double with an out to put the 2-0 score.
Bryce Harper’s double in La Cuarta drove Bryson Stott, who embasted for an error when he opened the entrance.
The rockies had the opportunity to open the score in the second entry. Brenton Doyle connected a triple with an outpiece, but Tyler Freeman connected a roll to Trea Turner in the campocorto and Kyle Farmer raised to finish the entrance and keep the game without races.
The rockies have been bleached eight times this season, and their 45 errors in 50 games is the greatest amount for a MLB team from the 2019 Seattle Mariners.
With the arrival of the New York Yankees to start a series of three games on Friday, the panorama is still gloomy for the rockies, who have not yet announced their starter for that game.
