Riquelme has a plan to revolutionize Madrid basketball: his own pavilion and women’s team
Henry Riquelmecandidate for the presidency of Real Madridpresented this Thursday a detailed strategic plan to transform the basketball section of the white club. The proposal, which seeks to redefine the weight of this discipline within the entity, contemplates a set of important measures that range from the social level to that of infrastructure, highlighting the construction of its own pavilion within the future ‘Member City’.
According to the official statement released by the candidacy, the diagnosis of the project indicates that the main challenge of Madrid basketball does not lie in the sporting field, but in the lack of “institutional recognition, visibility and strategy” within the general structure of the club.
“Basketball has made the world great.” real Madrid for decades. We cannot treat it as a secondary section when it represents history, European prestige and the future for many partners,” he stated. Riquelme in the press release, underlining the need to return it to the historical prominence it deserves.
An own pavilion and improvements in attendance
One of the most striking pillars of the proposal is the construction of a sports facility exclusively for basketball. This own pavilion would be integrated into the development called ‘Member City’, offering a stable headquarters that contributes to the long-term sustainability and growth of the section.
While this infrastructure is being finalized, the project contemplates immediate measures to encourage attendance at Movistar Arena. Among them, the implementation of a “companion subscription” stands out, specifically designed to facilitate access for young people and families, seeking for subscribers to act as active “ambassadors” of the section in each match.
Leadership in Europe, women’s section
At the international level, the candidacy of Riquelme has ratified its commitment to continuity with the Euroleague, although it advocates a more active position on the part of the club. The plan calls for “leadership from within”, characterized by greater transparency and a firm defense of the interests of the white institution in the European framework.
Likewise, the proposal includes other significant development axes:
Boost to the quarry: Reinforcement of the lower categories to promote young talent.
Creation of a women’s section: Development of a women’s basketball team integrated into the club structure.
Historical recovery: The return of emblematic events that marked an era, such as the traditional Christmas Tournament. A professional management model with Fernando Hierro as a reference
Finally, Riquelme defends the need to establish more efficient, hierarchical and professional management in the basketball section, framed in a global sports vision. For this new organizational model, the candidacy places former soccer player Fernando Hierro as the main institutional reference of the entity, in order to provide leadership and cohesion to the project.
