Pierre Gasly: ”With F1 I chose a bad job. Every time I take a plane it takes years off my life, I absolutely hate it, so every time I can save flying, I do it”
Pierre Gaslypilot Formula 1 in the Alpine teamsurprised by revealing one of his fears. He doesn’t mind driving at full speed, at more than 300 km/h behind the wheel of his F1, nor the risk involved in doing so on urban circuits, between walls. But he is afraid of flying, something that contrasts with his job, a pilot in a category like F1, with 24 race weekends all over the world, with constant trips, many of them long-term.
“I arrived a little faster than Valtteri,” he said when asked about traveling by car from Malaysia, where he competed last week, to Bahrain, where he races this weekend, remembering that Bottas, a Cadillac driver, made that trip by bicycle.
“But hey, it went well. I drove from the airport to Singapore. There were a couple of storms, some rain, and in the end it took us four and a half hours, but I’m not a big fan of flying.. I don’t like being in the air and not having control. “I feel much safer on land.”he commented before the F1 microphones.
They then asked him if he was saying that he has a fear of flying, of airplanes. And he expanded his answer.

“I hate flying, I absolutely hate flying. It’s clear that I chose a bad job, because each flight takes years off my life, so every time I can save flying, I do it,” he explained.
