Mets and Cards ultiman agreement for the closing Ryan Helsley
Mets will receive Ryan Helsley and, in return, will send Cardinals to SS Jesús Báez and the Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt pitchers
The New York Mets are finalizing an agreement to acquire the St. Louis Cardinals, Ryan Helsley, according to Fuentes to Jeff Passan of AM850on Wednesday.
In return, the cardinals will receive the Shortstop Jesús Báez, the right pitcher Nate Dohm and the right pitcher Frank Elissaltconfirmed sources to AM850. Báez is classified as the number 5 prospect in the METS system by Kiley McDaniel of AM850.
Helsley, 31 years old and in his last year of contract, accumulates 21 salvages with the cardinals this season, with an effectiveness of 3.00 and 41 strikeouts in 36 tickets released. It has 14 bases per ball.
This was the second decision of the METS on Wednesday to improve the bullpen. New York acquired Tyler Rogers of the San Francisco Giants to reinforce a body of relief that has been reduced by excessive use and injury. New York also obtained the reliever twice All-Star, Gregory Soto, in a exchange with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Since mid -May, New York has lost left -handed relievers Aj Minder and Danny Young, already relieved Max Kranick and Deniel Núñez rights, for the rest of the season due to injuries.
Since June 1, the Bullpen of the Mets occupies the 25th position in the major leagues with an effectiveness of 4.87 and 28 in probability of added victory.
The METS arrived on Wednesday with an advantage of half a game in the East Division of the National League over its rival Philadelphia Phillies.
Helsley had the fourth best War among the relief last season, but it hasn’t been so good this year. Its repertoire and placement are similar, but the main difference is that its line is being connected strongly, with an indirect consequence: its high home run rate.
Helsley, twice All-Star, led the major leagues with 49 rescues in 2024, and its 82 salvages between 2022 and 2024 located it in the sixth place among all the reliefs. It also registered an effectiveness of 1.83 during that period, only surpassed by Emmanuel Class among the pitchers with more than 150 entries released.
The New York Post was the first to inform about the players who would join the cardinals.
Information from Jorge Castillo, Kiley McDaniel and The Associated Press was used in this note.
