Max Verstappen: “The interruption due to the rain? I was watching the Premier League’s Nottingham Forest-Manchester City. It doesn’t matter. I lost 12 hours of my life today that I will never get back”

“I was watching football. Premier League,” said Max Verstappen when asked after qualifying how he was preparing for the resumption of the time trial session this Saturday, after it was stopped for almost an hour and a half due to the heavy rain that hit Interlagos, in the 2026 F1 Brazilian GP.

“I was watching a lot of different games. Nottingham Forest-Manchester City was the last one I watched before I got in the car. They were 3-1 up, I actually saw a great goal just before I got back!”he said with a laugh on ‘ViaPlay’, making it clear that what happened yesterday on the track did not matter much to him due to the penalty he had for having changed the power unit, which made him start from the back of the grid anyway (21st).

“I start last anyway, so it doesn’t matter. Today I lost 12 hours of my life that I will never get back”he said about the time he lost between sessions and due to the interruption this Saturday.

The Dutchman, with one of the best cars on the grid, will start from 21st position with the need to make a comeback. Many took advantage of that starting place to remember their historic comeback in 2024, in which they ended up winning despite starting from 17th place on the grid.

In the past it was possible to climb here, but now we no longer have DRS

However, Max believes that with current regulations, at Interlagos, repeating such a feat will be very difficult.

“In the past it was possible to overcome here, but now we no longer have DRS. And overtaking mode is very limiting here due to the long straight“he noted.

“Everyone is draining their battery, so your speed difference on the straight is going to be a lot less. “It will be a bit like what happened in Mexico, really, so it will be much more difficult to overtake than normal.”he explained.
