Lawson is announced by Red Bull to occupy the seat in the F1 team alongside Max Verstappen and replacing Pérez

A few hours after announcing that Sergio Perez I stopped being part of his team, Red Bull made it official that the New Zealand pilot Liam Lawson will be the one who replaces them and becomes the teammate of Max Verstappen in the 2025 season.

Through a publication on its social media accounts, Red Bull confirmed what had already been an open secret for weeks: Lawson will have the tough task of driving the team’s second car, the same one that crushed drivers like Pierre Gasly. , Alex Albon and recently the Mexican Checo Pérez, but who left a path not so easy to follow, having won two Constructors’ Championships, having been part of Red Bull’s only 1-2 in the final table of the Drivers’ Championship and also having spent four years in the hottest seat of F1.

Lawson has only competed in 11 Grand Prix in his career, he is 22 years old and is a graduate of Red Bull’s Juniro Team, which is managed by the team’s special advisor, Helmut Marko.

Lawson’s entire career in F1 has so far been in the minor team of the energy drink brand, formerly AlphaTauri, today Racing Bulls and always as a substitute for Daniel Ricciardo, first due to a fracture of the Australian and then, when the team decided to downgrade to ‘Honey Badger’ or poor performance.

“To be honest, it’s pretty crazy (being a Red Bull driver). It’s still obviously surreal. It’s obviously just happened, so yeah, but it’s very exciting. It’s something I’ve obviously worked for for a long time. I probably didn’t expect that it was so fast, but obviously it’s something I feel prepared and excited for.

“I mean, it’s probably the hardest place to be, but it also offers the most opportunities. Obviously (Max) is the best in the world right now, so there’s no one better to learn from. There’s no one better with “Every session I conduct, I can basically look at all of his data and see exactly how he does it. So as much as I know it’s going to be extremely difficult, there’s no one better to learn from,” Lawson said.

Christian Horner’s bet on Red Bull left aside the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, who also aspired to promotion, but who has seen how he has been underestimated once again, despite the fact that he has surpassed Lawson in their time as teammates.
