Las Diablas' World Cup dream began with a win against Switzerland

The Diablas beat Switzerland by a landslidewas 6 to 0 in the debut of the World Cup in Santiago, Chile. The locals played high-flying hockey and it was effective with goals from Manuela Urroz (on two occasions), Fernanda Arrieta, María Jesús Maldonado, Denises Rojas Losada and Fernanda Villagrán.

Chile took to the field with high revsarrived at the area on his first play and took a short corner that Fernanda Arrieta could not convert into a goal. The locals were unable to gain the necessary patience to penetrate the area effectively and the Europeans were unable to use counterattacks to hurt their rival.

The second quarter was all blue, Las Diablas set out to break the zero and it didn’t take long. An isolated play in the Swiss area and its captain, Manuela Urroz (20′)used all his creativity with a backhand that broke zero. Less than a minute later, Jesu Maldonado faced forward, piled up several players and divided the ball at the penalty spot. There was the “10” and the same Urroz (20′) extended the lead. They were not satisfied with that. After a homecoming by Denise Rojas Losada on the right, The number five launched a cross that Maldonado connected (26′) and Jesu made it 3 to 0.

After the long break, Chile tried to pull the strings of the match to gain a foothold in the game. They lowered the intensity of the back-and-forth to try to play with the result, although they would not leave satisfied with the score. With three minutes left in the third quarter, the goal was opened from the corner: Rojas Losada (42′) had his revenge and when one enters they all enter; the first of direct drag and pipe to the goalkeeper. The fifth goal was Fernanda Arrieta (44′)also from a corner, hard against the defender’s post who could not do anything due to the violence of the shot.

The last fifteen minutes were similar to the course of the match, Las Diablas dominating and effectively reaching the opposing net. The final goal of the win was scored by Villagrán (48′), from a short corner to close the curtain on the debut.

Chile will play again on Wednesday, March 4against Australia, from 3:45 p.m. (ARG/CHI/URU) in what will be the key duel of the group zone.
