Kawhi Leonard will miss the next games due to a sprained ankle
Coach Lue did not elaborate on the nature of Kawhi’s injury or the length of his absence, but indicated that medical evidence suggests the injury likely will not be a long-term problem.
INGLEWOOD, California — Kawhi Leonard will miss “the next few games” for the LA Clippers due to a sprained ankle, according to coach Tyronn Lue.
Leonard missed his third straight game Saturday night when the Clippers hosted the Phoenix Suns.
Lue did not elaborate on the nature of the 34-year-old Leonard’s injury or the length of his absence, but the coach indicated that medical tests performed on Leonard’s ankle suggest the injury likely will not be a long-term problem.
The Clippers will play at home on Monday and Wednesday before beginning a streak of seven consecutive road games over the next two weeks, starting on Friday.
Leonard played the first three games of the season with Los Angeles, averaging 24.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He scored 27 points in 37 minutes of play in the Clippers’ loss to Miami on Monday.
Injuries have repeatedly plagued Leonard since the two-time NBA Finals MVP joined the Clippers in 2019. He missed the entire 2021-22 season while recovering from a serious right knee injury, and missed the first 34 games of last season due to problems with the same knee.
