Jordi Cruyff was left without a big signing: “I will never say who he is”

He Ajax They lost the opportunity to sign a very good player because they failed to qualify for the Champions League. The technical director of the Dutch club, Jordi Cruyff, He revealed it last night during the Rondo program on ‘Ziggo Sport’, which was echoed by ‘Voetbalzone’. However, the former Barcelona player did not want to give the name.

The Amsterdam team finished fifth last season in the Eredivisie, so they had to secure their participation in European competitions through the playoffs. After passing the preliminary rounds, they finally qualified for the final phase of the Conference League. But the goal is more ambitious.

The goal is to return to the Champions League in the short term. “I think it’s important. Of course, economically, but also for the club. To compete again at the highest level.” Cruyff regrets that it is said that Ajax is an old team. “They say we have signed older players, but we play every week with two or three boys of about eighteen years old in the starting eleven. That also happens,” he replies.

Ruud Gullit, during the program, then asks him if Cruyff also spoke with players who ultimately did not come because Ajax did not qualify for the Champions League. Cruyff answered yes, laughing: “There is one that escaped us. But I will never say who. You will laugh when you see this.”
