Barça deserves to be thanked: what these kids from La Masia have done in the US!

In what is a mixture of brand pride but also resignation, Barça increasingly supports NCAA teams but, in particular, one: the Duke Blue Devils. And even two of the greatest child prodigies who have grown up in La Masia in recent years play for the prestigious American university: Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje and Dame Sarr.

And like talents from Barça that they are, last night both youth players led the beating that Duke gave to the Army Black Nights in their debut in the new NCAA season (84-50), with Sarr posting 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists with a perfect 5/5 in field goals and Boumtje Boumtje 15 points and 7 catches with a 4/8 in shooting.

With Sarr living his second year in American college basketball, Boumtje Boumtje is Duke’s big attraction. The 17-year-old, 2.11m tall American center did not make his debut with the Barça first team but helped Barça win the Junior Euroleague against Real Madrid in May and there is talk of him as a candidate for number 1 in the 2028 NBA draft.

The son of former NB Ruben Boumtje Boumtje already showed signs of his physical power in his NCAA debut with his way of running the court and his dunks. He also already has an important role with Team USA after winning the U-17 World Cup last summer of which he was MVP. He left 1/4 in triples in his debut, not the most successful series of shots but demonstrating his abilities as a shooting center. In the U League he signed 37.7%.
