The Ecuadorian Cycling Federation (FEC) reported that Jhonatan Narváez will not be at the Zurich World Cup. The cyclist did not receive permission from his team, Ineos, and still has shoulder discomfort as a result of the fall in the Vuelta a España.

The 2024 Road Cycling World Championships will be held in Zurich, between September 21 and 29. For this event, the FEC summoned Richard Carapaz, Alexander Cepeda, Jefferson Cepeda, Jonathan Caicedo, Jhonatan Narváez and Martín López, who already excused himself from attending because he suffered COVID-19 during the Vuelta a España.

According to the Ineos medical report, “The cyclist is not in optimal physical condition due to the consequences of COVID-19. “He also has shoulder discomfort,” this as a consequence of the fall he suffered in his participation in La Vuelta.

The ‘Lagarto’ Narváez is the second cyclist to leave the National Team, and now all hopes are pinned on Richard Carapaz since the 273.9 kilometer route and a cumulative 4,470 meters of elevation gain favor him. The men’s road race will be held on Sunday, September 29.

The Olympic road cycling champion in Tokyo 2020 and champion of the 2019 Giro d’Italia will have Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel as rivals, to name some of the favorites.
