“I’m a full-time Uber driver.”

At 39 years old, Kasper Schmeichelson of the legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, had to abandon his football career due to a serious shoulder injury that has prevented him from continuing to play football. The goalkeeper, formerly of Manchester City among many other teams, announced his retirement last spring, while a player for Glasgow Rangers.

Now he has explained what he spends his time doing since he is ‘retired’. “I have three children. Basically, I am a full-time Uber driver. It is a strange transition and I was not prepared for it. Life presents you with these things and I am adapting,” admitted the former Danish international, yesterday at the EFC club meeting.

Schmeichel also states that “I am taking some courses, working on television and taking children from one place to another. Later I would like to be a football coach or something more important. The passion is still alive. When I am on the field, training or helping young people who are coming forward, I really enjoy it.” And he adds: “All my life I have been accustomed to the expectation of performing at my best, and that motivated me. Now, from one day to the next, that has disappeared and I need to replace that dose of dopamine.”
