How was the main draw of Argentine tennis players at the Australian Open 2025
Argentine tennis has already defined its path towards the Australian Open 2025. In Melbourne, the draw for the main draw was held, which defined the fate of all albiceleste tennis players, both in the men’s and women’s branches.
To start, the best racket in the country, Sebastián Báez (No. 28) will face the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (No. 80)with whom he does not register official matches played. However, the Frenchman already knows what it is like to face Argentine rivals in the opening of a Grand Slam, since he crashed in the first phase of Roland Garros 2024 against Tomás Etcheverry, with defeat.
And if we talk about the player from La Plata, who is currently ranked No. 39 in the ATP world ranking, he also already has a confirmed rival. We are talking about Italian Flavio Cobolli (No. 32). Although these tennis players never faced each other at the highest level, they did in the Challengers and qualy of Grand Slam. The three games, played between 2021 and 2022, were in the hands of the Argentine.
Then we have Francisco Cerúndolo (N°31)who will have a very difficult stop in the first phase. His contender for a place in the second round will be the eccentric Alexander Bublik (No. 33) whom he never faced professionally but who performs very well on hard courts. In fact, three of his four titles were on that surface.
As to Mariano Navone (No. 46) and Francisco Comesaña (No. 85)the two debutants at the Australian Open, will clash against Jack Draper (No. 15) and Daniel Altmaier (No. 93) respectively. The first has already played against the British on the Queen’s grass (2024), where he was defeated in straight sets while the second will play for the first time against the German.
Then there is Facundo Díaz Acosta (N°78)who made his senior debut at the Australian Open in 2024 with a loss to Taylor Fritz. However, in 2025 he had a lower-ranked rival. We are talking about the Belgian Zizou Bergs (N°66)who is currently in the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Auckland. The record shows only one confrontation, on a hard court (indoor), in Antwerp last year with victory for the local team in straight sets.
Finally, within the group of gentlemen, we must mention Federico Coria (N°97) and Camilo Ugo Carabelli (N°95). Both will compete in the first phase but do not yet know an opponent, since they will face a tennis player from the qualy.
Going on the ladies side, Nadia Podoroska (No. 95) will make her debut against the Czech Karolina Muchova (No. 21). In H2H, the record is equal with one victory per side: the Argentine triumphed in Bertioga 2016 while the European did the same at Roland Garros 2023. Both matches went to three sets.
The other albiceleste competitor, María Lourdes Carlé (No. 96), will appear against the American Amanda Anisimova (No. 36). The North American has just lost in the first round in Auckland and given walkover in the Hobart quarter-finals. This will be the first confrontation between the two.
To close, We must highlight Julia Riera (N°147) who went through the always difficult qualy and will play the main draw of the Australian Open. And her name was paired in the draw with the best South American tennis player of recent years: Beatriz Haddad Maia (N°16). Without a doubt, a difficult stop for the albiceleste player.
