Franco Colapinto: “Obviously, it wasn’t what we wanted”
The Argentine suffered in the GP of Spain due to the lack of consistency in the rhythm of his Alpine and was 15º.
Franco Colapinto finished the ninth Formula 1 date with a large grimace of dissatisfaction. The Argentine pilot arrived in Barcelona with the illusion of being able to look for the limit in the layout of Montmeló, after the slow Monaco race that he himself defined as “a Sunday walk with the family.” However, their expectations were not fulfilled because their Alpine, especially with middle covers, was very lacking in rhythm.
“I don’t understand what happened. Obviously, it was not what we wanted, a very complicated race with a lot of degradation, the tires were spent a lot. We could not control degradation. We have to work hard to return stronger to know what the big problem we had this weekend that we were not constant. Sometimes he was going faster and close to Pierre’s rhythm and then not, ”Franco explained as soon as he got off his A525.
Canada will be the next stop in two weeks, an unknown track for Colapinto. “I get much more comfortable to Canada that I don’t know, but I know the car. But you have to understand those moments in which we have no rhythm. From Friday to Saturday we took a step forward, but today (on Sunday) it cost us a lot for different factors That we have to understand better. You have to focus on the next one. ”
Asked by Alpine’s weaknesses, Colapinto was clear: “Slow curves and lines”. The engine and the slow recharge of the batteries are the Achilles heel of the A525. None of that can be remedied before the end of the season because the drivers are frozen. On some clues they can go better and, in others, more complicated. For now, the last place occupied by Estone’s team in the World Cup of Constructors is the faithful reflection of its actuality.
