Franco Colapinto: “It’s a very difficult car”

The Argentine spoke after finishing last in the Mexico City GP classification. “We made changes, but it’s the same,” he explained.

Franco Colapinto made a mistake in his last Q1 attempt: he attacked the curbs a lot and his Alpine took flight. The rigidity of the A525 does not allow for those attempts at the limit as other pilots may do. Finally, the Argentine will start last, but without that slip he had no chance of getting into Q2 because the French team’s car is far away.

“Q2 was impossible, I think we could have finished 16th or 17th. It’s a very difficult car, I hit a curb like everyone else hits and the front tires lifted and I had no direction. We always have to look for that last thousandth and it doesn’t work out. We have to improve for the race and try to make it a better day,” the former Williams said.

“It’s very difficult, I found a very disconnected car that didn’t have grip. A difficult day in general. We have to work for the race, but it will also be very difficult. It’s being a weekend and a circuit that is not going well for us, like most”Colapinto was sincere.

That rigidity in the suspension makes it difficult for Alpine when they reach bumpy tracks or where you have to attack the curbs. And if it softens, you lose charge and speed, something that is not abundant in the A525. The hieroglyph is complicated. “It’s a very tough car that loses all grip with any bump. It wasn’t a good qualifying, it also cost me the third practice session. We made changes, but it’s the same, we didn’t find grip with any change,” Franco concluded.
