Franco Colapinto chose between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen
The Argentine, in a conversation with AM850, got into the fight for the 2025 F1 title and in Qatar he made his choice on who he would like to keep the crown.
“Oscar Piastri is not going to win,” said Franco Colapinto, while thinking about his final response. AM850’s question was clear: who will be the 2025 champion? McLaren’s double exclusion from Las Vegas, for failing to pass the post-competition technical review, added an unexpected dose of intrigue to a World Cup that seemed completely defined. When the checkered flag was lowered in the Nevada street, Lando Norris enjoyed a 30-point lead over his Australian McLaren teammate and 42 more than Max Verstappen. The disqualification of the Woking cars left the British with a gap of 24 units over the Melbourne and the four-time champion Red Bull.
The accounts continue to be clearly favorable to Lando, who by increasing his lead by two points at the end of the Qatari weekend would celebrate his first crown in the top category. But, of course, since it is a certain Max Verstappen who is behind it (and with the addition that he has nothing to lose) the doubt arose in the World Cup. The Argentine from Alpine is on a different note, in the fight to find some performance gap in his A525 to try to score his first points of 2025, but, of course, it is impossible not to get fully involved in the definition.
Piastri ruled out, so Lando or Max? “Since Max is behind, I want the one behind to win because he is the weakest and would be more impressive. I think it’s between Lando and Max, but Lando has a much better chance because he’s 24 points ahead with two races left. It is a huge advantage, if you do things decently you will win,” said Franco.
The presence of Verstappen in the definition adds mystery because Norris showed weaknesses at climactic moments on several occasions in his career. “Lando has to face it calmly. In Las Vegas you could see him… Let’s see, we all want to win, but he is fighting for a championship and it is worth much more than a victory.”. I feel like they don’t realize the big picture sometimes and go race by race when there’s something bigger. “I would do it differently,” Colapinto analyzed.
