Four retirements due to injury and a day to be forgotten on the professional circuit

The busy tennis calendar brings with it an endless number of different comments and thoughts. However, it is a reality that this directly affects tennis players on the professional circuit, since this seasonand has been giving the highest percentage of withdrawals or no-shows at scheduled meetings.

Four new retreats were added to the day of Friday, October 24, at the ATP 500 in Basel and Vienna: one in the Austrian city and three in Switzerland. Below are all the details.

The retirements in Basel were from Felix Auger-Aliassime (12th), when he lost against Jaume Munar 6-3; of Denis Shapovalov (23rd), in his match against Joao Fonseca (46th) -he was 3-6, 6-3 and 4-1 down-; and Casper Ruud (11th), after losing the first round with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (1).

These abandonments in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 in Basel mark a historical precedent: There are no records of so many withdrawals in the same instance and tournament in the ATP.

As if this were not enough, Tallon Griekspoor (28th) did not show up for his quarterfinal match in Vienna against Alexander Zverev (3rd), giving the German a direct ticket to the ATP Finals.
