Formula 1 would advance the engine review to four races
The system of additional opportunities to improve power units had a deadline of six competitions, but due to the cancellations of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, it could go to four.
ADUO stands for Additional Development and Upgrading Opportunities.. That is the system of concessions that the International Automobile Federation created with the arrival of the new technical regulations that seek to match the supplier of power units that is far behind in terms of performance with respect to the rest. The one that is 2% below the best combustion engine will receive an additional evolution. Whoever is 4% inferior in power will have two. Furthermore, sand divided the F1 calendar into four performance analysis windows; one every six races. But the cancellations of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia broke the mathematical account.
The first ADUO cut would be made after the Miami GP, on May 3, initially noted as the sixth date. Before the losses of the two Middle East events due to the war in the region, the American competition will be the fourth. That would lead to Monaco (first weekend in June and the new sixth round) finally being the date to make the concessions. However, heThe FIA will propose keeping Miami and reducing the competitions to four before applying the ADUO.
Mercedes would be the only power unit manufacturer that would oppose the modification. It’s not illogical. The Germans have a considerable advantage at the start of the World Cup and do not want to give their rivals the chance to close the gap sooner than expected. The rest would welcome the advancement of the observation window with open arms, including Ferrari, which hopes to bring out an additional evolution. This means that Maranello have a 2% disadvantage compared to the Arrows. It is very likely that the FIA proposal will finally be implemented because only one constructor was against it.
Another important fact is that, also due to the new regulations, the teams’ budget limit is 215 million dollars, 80 million more than in 2025.. That cap is maintained despite the cancellations of Bahrain and Arabia, that is, for the teams it ends up being more money, due to the proration per appointment it went from 8,958,333 to 9,772,727.
