F1: Oscar Piastri had no rivals and celebrated in Baréin

The Australian dominated forcefulness and took his second triumph of the year. In another world, George Russell battled with Lando Norris for the other two steps of the podium.

MClaren is a team created by a New Zealander, who runs under the flag of England and whose owners are from Baréin. Yes, a salad. In 2007, Mumtalakat, the Sovereign Investment Fund of the small state of the Middle East, exclusive property of the Government, took over a good part of the McLaren Racing share package. Since then, for the ranks of the Woking team they passed a pilot named with their own weight: David Coulhard, Kimi Räikkönen, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo … Yes, four world champions were headlines of the Team founding Bruce McLaren, however, they had never been able to win in their career. No, it’s not Silverstone, it’s Sakhir, especially because Mumtalakat is the majority owner. In the midst of names of so much brightness, the victory finally arrived on the fourth date of 2025 with a pilot called to get into the list of the greats: Oscar Piastri.

Australian’s work was superlative. And for two reasons: because he was absolutely dominant and overwhelming and all the good he did was precisely the huge countercart of all the bad that his partner Lando Norris did in Sakhir. Back in February, before the pre -season start, everyone assumed that McLaren would have the best car in the grid. And it was fulfilled. Among his starting partner, Norris, for being in his seventh season with those of Woking, he was expected to be 1. However, Piastri sent a notice in the Baréin test before the start of the World Cup: “I can be world champion,” he warned. And he is showing it on track.

Piastri does not have the charism of his partner or smile so much. Getting words costs a lot, far from the Locuaz style of Lando. But Oscar has a total murderous instinct, the one that the great F1 champions had and that must be dominated. For those who doubt, just looking back in this century, some boys named Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher appear … And Sebastian Vettel, the total dominator, until his talent was reconvirt when he began to be more kind. Piastri does not let opportunities and just just fulfilled his 50th race in F1.

The Australian was champion of F3 and F2 in consecutive years (2020 and 2021) and planted Alpine (he was a member of his junior program) when he was announced as a starter for 2023 after Alonso announced his departure to move to Aston Martin. Of course, the French team had only one letter of intention with Piastri and its manager, Mark Webber raised his bag and signed with McLaren. He already showed that he arrived to compete, not to be a simple squire of Noris.

The start of the 2025 season was complicated for Oscar. Just in the career of his case he ended up clueless in the rain and the image of his MCL39 skating in the Pasto turned the world. It was just that moment where he went out to show his fierceness, his talent and his iron head. Because he won in China, he was third in Japan behind Norris (with more rhythm, but braking by the team) and in Baréin he celebrated again. Two successes in four races to be just three points from his partner, who does not stop showing weaknesses.

Sakhir’s weekend began to dominate him in the classification by achieving pole. In the race, Piastri lived in a parallel world. While behind the other steps of the podium and even for resolving who would get into the points zone, Oscar was in another story. So much that the official TV committed the sacrilege not showing it when he crossed the goal. They chose to follow the final duel of Russell and Norris for second place. Perhaps it was a mistake, they may do it on the Australian is not one of the most charismatic. But if someone had doubts that those said Piestri of February, when he said “I can be world champion”, he clears them in every weekend.

“It was an incredible weekend, starting with the classification, everything was very nice. I am very proud. This is a career always very important for us here in Baréin, for the owners. I can not finish thanking the team for giving me such a good car,” Piastri said. The output of the security car could have represented a problem, because it was traveling in another world. “I would have preferred not to come out, but I was calm because it had a good pace. I was not going to lose this race, it will be celebrated, but not much because there is another race in a week,” he closed.

Pastri’s victory has value for several points: McLaren’s first victory gave the first victory at his home, he won the third of the team in four appointments, he became the most winner of the year, he showed more in evidence of his partner’s cataract of errors and showed that he has everything to be champion.
