The third base of the Dodgers will be out at least until mid -September, in full division fight against parents.

Max Muncy He was diagnosed with a grade 1 distension in the oblique and this Friday he entered the list of injured, a hard blow for some Los Angeles Dodgers that are in fall in the west of the National League.

Muncy was discarded from Wednesday’s alignment, surprisingly, after feeling discomfort on the right side during batting practice prior to the game. The hope of the Dodgers was to rest that meeting in Anaheim, added Thursday’s free day and could return to the crucial series against San Diego Padresdivisional rivals that have taken advantage of a game in the west of the National League.

But Muncy will miss the series of this weekend at Dodger Stadium, as well as the next one in Petco Park the following week.

“I don’t think anyone expects the end of the season,” said Manager Dave Roberts, “but hopefully it is sooner rather than later.”

Roberts does not believe that the current injury in the oblique is “as serious” as the one that forced Muncy to lose about two months last year, but even in the best of the stage, the Dodgers could be without their antealist and left -handed batter of power until mid -September.

Muncy had had a bad start this year before lighting in mid -May, registering an offensive line of .312/.438/.616 with 11 homers in a period of 41 games. Then he suffered a left knee injury during a hard collision in the third base that left him out of July. He returned on August 4, hit 23-8 with four home runs in eight games, and now he is left out-just at a time when World Series defending champions need reinforcements urgently.

The Dodgers had an advantage of nine games in the West Division of the National League as of July 3, but since then they have registered 12-21 brand, falling a game behind some enraged parents who arrived in Los Angeles with five consecutive victories. Up to six high -impact reliefs are on the Dodgers injured list, although three of them – Michael Kopech, Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott – are close to returning. The offensive, meanwhile, has been unproductive in the last six weeks, with an OPS of .708 that occupies the 22nd position in major leagues.

In the absence of Muncy, the Dodgers will resort to Alex Freeland, An ambitious rookie who beats .176 in his first 12 games, and Buddy Kennedy, a right utility with .193 in his career. Other possible reinforcements such as Tommy Edman, Ha-Seong Kim and Enrique Hernandez They remain in the injured list and are not close enough to return.

“It is certainly a hard decline,” Roberts said. “I think that boys just have to continue surrendering according to their abilities. It is difficult to replace what Max brings: discipline on the plate, power, the ability to embasate, all that. I feel good with our alignment, with the players we have, and they simply must go out and have good shifts to the bat. That is the only thing we can do right now.”
