Brennan: “The Tour leaves the United Kingdom in 2027, I would like to wear the yellow jersey”

The British Matthew Brennan (Visma Lease a Bike) achieved its fourth victory in this edition of the Vuelta a Españaa fact that encourages him to think that he could compete for the yellow jersey in the 2027 Tour de France that will start from Edinburgh.

“Next year the Tour starts in the United Kingdom. I already told the team two years ago, when I found out that the start would be there, that I would really like to be on the starting line and also have teammates like Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte. “We can try to repeat what we have done here and get the yellow jersey in the first stage,” Brennan said.

The cyclist born in Darlington 21 years ago expressed great enthusiasm after achieving his fourth victory as a debutant and the sixth for the Visma team in this Vuelta a España.

“The emotion remains the same. It’s amazing: four wins here when the plan was to get one! As a team, I think we’ve already won six… I’ve lost count, we’ve won a lot! In the stages we have won, we have really stuck to the established plan,” he explained.

Brennan admitted that Van Aert’s work as a pitcher is a guarantee to be able to finish in the arrivals due to speed.

“The teammates have been working hard against the wind. Finishing the stage like this, with Wout van Aert taking me to the finish line in a perfect position in such a chaotic finish, has been ideal. I don’t think you can compete against those situations with Van Aert as a pitcher,” he stressed.

The last cyclist to win four stages in his Grand Tour debut was the Colombian Fernando Gaviria in 2017. The following year, he won the opening stage of the Tour de France.
