Bombshell in sight? Nikola Mirotic is within reach of Barça

Neither Sylvain Francisco, nor Jean Montero, nor Mike James… For one reason or another, the stars who have featured in a preferential place on Barça’s agenda will not end up wearing the shirt of the Barça team, which has reinforced its squad with good players but without incorporating any top-level star so far. Could Nikola Mirotic be the one to play that role?

What at first might seem like a bar counter occurrence is not so much so if we pay attention to the information coming from the Montenegrin player’s entourage, who would not at all rule out a return to the Palau Blaugrana three years after his controversial departure. Mirotic has great memories of his four years at the Palau (2019-2023) and, if he received a call from Barça, wearing Barça again would be his first option.

Mirotic is finalizing his departure from AS Monaco, where he arrived last summer after two years at Armani Milan. The serious economic crisis of the Principality club, relegated to playing next season in the French third division, has caused a general disbandment of its players: Okobo, Blossomgame and Diallo have signed for Dubai, Strazel has gone to Anadolu Efes and Mike James is one of the pearls of the market after his disagreement with Barça. Mirotic will be the next to leave.

The Montenegrin has had a difficult season at Monaco due to some injuries, the last one to the plantar fascia that forced him to end the campaign early. Of course, when he was healthy he posted respectable numbers, with 11 points, 4.3 rebounds and a PIR of 12.7 in the Euroleague, with 39.3% in triples.

Mirotic is determined to continue playing at the highest level and has already been approached by various Euroleague teams, including – according to some sources – Valencia Basket. The Montenegrin, however, wants to explore all his options
