América comes back against Alianza Atlético and achieves its first victory in the Sudamericana

Cali America achieved a valuable victory by winning 2-1 over Athletic Alliance on the second date of the group stage of the Conmebol Sudamericana 2026in what was their first home game at the Pascual Guerrero stadium.

The Valle del Cauca team had to come from behind to get the three pointsin a match in which the reaction at the end of the first half and the dominance in the second half made the difference.

Athletic Alliance surprised in the 31st minute with a goal from Ariel Muñoz, who took advantage of a counterattack to put the Peruvian team ahead and momentarily silence Pascual Guerrero.

However, America found an answer before the break. At minute 44, Tomás Ángel led an offensive action that ended in Daniel Valencia’s tie, a goal that changed the momentum of the game and gave the scarlet team some air.

For the second half, The Colombian team came out with a different attitudetaking over the ball and generating constant danger, especially from the partnership between Tomás Ángel and Yeison Guzmán, who became the most incisive players in the final third.

That insistence had a reward at minute 55, when Guzmán caused a foul inside the area after contact with the rival goalkeeper. The midfielder himself was in charge of taking the penalty and, with a shot from his right foot, declared the final 2-1.

With this result, America reaches 4 points in Group Aafter having tied the first matchday as a visitor against Macará, and is gaining momentum in the fight for classification in the Sudamericana.
