F1: Lando Norris arrives at Miami wrapped in his web
The McLaren pilot suffers with his car, while his partner Oscar Piastri won three races and leads the World Cup.
His smiling countenance never changes. This showed Lando Norris, sitting in the chair of the conference room, during the attention to the press prior to the start of the Miami GP, sixth F1 date. English arrives curls in its own uncertainty and cloudy in a cataract of errors that had as its last chapter the clash against a wall of Jeddah during its first attempted attempted Q3. The fourth final place was not enough to defend the tip, which was held by Oscar Piastri, his partner in the Woking team, who also won three of the five played races and showed a huge mental strength compared to his emotional flim.
Norris points to his MCL39 as one of the factors that lead him to his current inconsistency. So why does it not show inconveniences, are it the management styles? “It is a difficult question to answer. Yes, very difficult to answer. I think there are certain things that do not allow me to feel what I need. And those things are the ones that allow me to lead to the level I can: get pole posations and go to the highest level in the races. They are details. It is not that it is impossible to suddenly drive. It is only that, in the classification, the difference is hundredths, thousandths of a second. I complained about that. And nothing more. So yes, I probably can’t answer a yes or no. I think Oscar may adapt more naturally. And I also think it is the responsibility of the pilot to adapt to the car to be given. But you have to make concessions. And the team is also there to help you get the most out of the car, ”he explained.
Norris felt much more comfortable with the MCL38, the 2024 car. “It is evident that there have been some changes. And they may simply suit Oscar, or that Oscar really has done a better adaptation job. Then it does not correspond to me to know, or try to find out, or waste time in it. But yes, it has affected me a little more. And I am not being able to perform at the level I had at the end of last season. I think it’s my best level. We have the simulator and others. And there was nothing that really indicated much about it. “
Of course, this year’s chassis is an improved version of last year’s and Norris acknowledged: “We knew it would be a step forward. We knew it would be faster. But until you really put it into practice and you drive in different circuits, it is not finished knowing. There are clues in which I felt better and in others I lacked sensitivity. I am working on my things. I am working on what to improve and try to understand everything I need to improve. It is not due to lack of speed or skill. I have often led the Q1 and Q2, but whenever I get to Q3, things do not come out as planned. So yes, I think there are things in driving and others in the car that have not fit. But I am working on it and I hope that this weekend I can put it into practice, ”he warned.
