Isack Hadjar’s incident with a fan at the Mexican GP that forced the FIA to intervene
Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar received a formal warning on Saturday after he pushed a Formula 1 guest in the paddock at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
The Frenchman was rushing to the first training session on Friday, but stopped to take a photo with a young fan when a man approached him in an “aggressive manner”, according to the stewards, who summoned Hadjar to a hearing.
“A member of security staff was walking behind him and was unable to intervene to prevent what amounted to an invasion of the pilot’s private space,” the stewards said.
The pilot initially resisted the move by placing his hand on the guest’s waist, keeping him at bay, and then pushed him to the side with his open right hand.
The stewards stated that Hadjar had broken the regulations, but took into account several mitigating factors, including that the action was unsolicited and aggressive, that the driver did not have sufficient security and that other people had had problems moving around the paddock.
The FIA acknowledged the invasion of his personal space, the lack of adequate security and the circumstances surrounding the incident, but ruled that Hadjar’s push breached the regulations.
