F1 honors: Kimi Antonelli is added to the list of all Formula 1 world champions

The day arrived. Kimi Antonelli (August 25, 2006, Bologna, Italy) achieved the dream of a lifetime: won his first F1 world champion title and became the 36th driver to write his name on the prestigious and select list of all Formula 1 champions in historysince the greatest competition in world motorsport was born in 1950.

The 20-year-old driver, the youngest in F1 history to win the crownat just 20 years old (three less than Sebastian Vettel’s previous record), he achieved it in just his second season in the categorybehind the wheel of a mercedes which was the dominant car from the beginning of the new regulation that debuted this year, with the best power unit as a whole in the category (combustion and electric part).

He had the difficult challenge of facing his teammate Russell, much more experienced and who had just beaten Lewis Hamilton for several years sharing a team with the 7-time champion. In fact, Toto Wolff brought him to Mercedes when he was only 18 years old to accept the enormous challenge of replacing Lewis in the star team. And after a complicated first year, it was rebuilt to exhibit a surprising version, with an iron mentality and an unusual cold-bloodedness for a kid of only 20 years old.

The first F1 champion in the last 73 years, the third in all historyLuca Bruno / Ap-LaPresse

His great adaptation to the new rules and his piloting have allowed him take over from previous champion, Lando Norrisand become the first king of Italian F1 since 1953. Andrea Kimi Antonelli is the third Italian to win a crown. The first was Giuseppe Farina in 1950. Then, Alberto Ascari would win the crowns of 1952 and 1953. 73 years laterF1 has another Italian champion. He has made history.
