Badosa advances in Guangzhou and Bucsa falls in Tokyo
Paula Badosanumber 61 in the WTA ranking and fifth seed, agreed this Wednesday to quarterfinals of the WTA 250 category tournament which is disputed on hard court in the Chinese city of Guangzhou after defeating 6-1 and 6-4 to the Austrian Sinja Kraus.
Badosa, who was entering the tournament after having fallen in the first round during her previous participation in Osaka, repeated the same score she had achieved in the round of 32 against the American Carol Young Suh Lee. This time he did it by winning 50% of the games against the rest and winning 82% of the points with his first serve.
In the first round, Badosa showed himself to be much superior, taking advantage of two of the six breaking balls he had in the second and sixth games and also winning the fifth blank with his serve. Already in the second he broke in the third and was able to sign a counterbreak in the ninth to close it in the next with his second match point. She will now face Janice Tjen or Harriet Dart.
Who has not been able to advance in Tokyo has been Cristina Bucsa. The Olympic doubles medalist has lost 6-1, 2-6 and 6-4 against the Australian Maya Joint in the round of 16. In this way, the tournament is left without a Spanish presence.
Bucsa, who had previously left the Frenchwoman Diane Parry behind, suffered especially with the second serves, her own and those of her rival, and although she was able to avoid three match points, she could not end up defeating Joint, who agreed from the previous phase. The latter will now face the Uzbek Kamilla Rakhimova, who beat the Russian Yekaterina Aleksandrova.
