3-1: El Salvador beats a lackluster Martinique
The selection of El Salvador won at home 3-1 on Friday night against a lackluster Martiniquein a match corresponding to group B of the A league of the League of Nations of the Concacaf and where the protagonist was the nationalized Salvadoran Colombian soccer player, Brayan Gil, author of a double.
In the match, played at the Jorge ‘Mágico’ Gónzalez National Stadium in San Salvador, Salvadoran midfielder Harold Osorio and forward Gil shone, a duo that won the three goals. Contrary to what was thought, the Martinique team did not show superiority and the errors in its defense took their toll.
The 25-year-old Gil opened the scoring at the dawn of the match, at minute 8, when midfielder Osorio sent a cross from the left wing that went straight to Gil’s chest, he saved it and dominated it and then finished with his left foot, facing a rival defense with nothing to do.
Still ecstatic about the first goal, the Salvadorans found the second goal in the 18th minute again through Osorio to assist Gil, who faced and beat goalkeeper Xavier Lenogue to score with his right foot. But Osorio did not keep the two assists and was the protagonist of the third goal for the Blue and White in the 29th minute. He received a pass from defender Diego Flores and sentenced with his right foot.
A grown, organized team with a game idea dominated the first half of the game, against a Martinique team that tried to score to make the end of the first half light, but without results.
Martinique reduced penalty distances
A different Martinique team entered the second half. More confident on the field, they put pressure on the rival and generated a couple of attempts at the goal guarded by Mario González. It was in the 50th minute when Salvadoran defender Flores fouled forward Kevin Appin, and Canadian referee Pierre-luc Lauziere awarded a penalty. Striker Janis Antiste was in charge of shooting and made the score 1-3.
The match was stopped for a few minutes after a fight broke out between the players of both teams, and a fight between coaches Gómez and Mercadal that resulted in a yellow card for the Martinique coach. After the incident, both teams looked for the goal but without results and the score ended in favor of the locals.
With the result, the Salvadorans lead group B with three points, above Suriname and Jamaica by goal difference against. In the Nations League, El Salvador shares a group with Guatemala, Jamaica, Martinique, Suriname and Honduras, and will play two games at home and two away.
